Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet strict criteria to be considered:

  • Education: Grade 12 certificate (compulsory proof required)
  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years
  • Driver’s Licence: Valid manual transmission licence (must pass a driving test)
  • Criminal Record: No convictions or pending cases (fingerprints will be verified at the applicant’s cost)
  • Offender Register: Cannot be listed on the sexual or child offenders’ register
  • Residency: Must reside in the Tshwane area (proof of residence required; affidavit needed if surname differs from registered owner)
  • Medical Fitness: Must provide a medical certificate confirming physical capability
  • Fitness Evaluation: Must complete a physical assessment
  • Psychometric Test: Must pass a departmental psychometric evaluation
  • English Proficiency: Must be fluent and pass a language assessment
  • Firearm Competency: Must not be declared incompetent under the Firearms Control Act
  • Tattoos: No visible tattoos when wearing a police uniform

Training Duration and Structure

Training Duration: 18 months
Program Includes:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Physical training
  • Practical policing exposure

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Upon successful training completion, candidates will serve as fully operational Metro Police Officers. Responsibilities include:

  • Traffic Law Enforcement: Uphold the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996)
  • By-law Policing: Enforce municipal regulations
  • Crime Prevention: Protect lives and property through visible policing
