Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Panorama offers a promising opportunity for aspiring pharmaceutical professionals. This Dispensary Support Learnership is ideal for young individuals eager to enter the healthcare industry through structured, on-the-job training.
What Is the Role About?
The main goal is to equip learners with essential knowledge and practical skills related to the pharmaceutical environment. Learners will enroll in the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, paving the way for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). During this time, candidates will be employed on a fixed-term basis.
Once qualified and registered with SAPC, permanent employment may be offered.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric/Senior Certificate with:
- Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)
- Life Sciences or Physical Sciences (minimum average 50%)
A successful applicant must also complete a proficiency test, validating their eligibility for SAPC learner basic registration.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Dispensary Support Learner will:
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines.
- Help compound, manipulate, or prepare non-sterile medicines.
- Participate in stock unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of shelves.
- Accurately interpret scripts in a legal and professional manner.
- Perform precise picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication.
- Identify common drug dosages and interactions.
- Verify all medications are checked and signed off by a registered pharmacist.
- Control stock, monitor expiry dates, and maintain cleanliness from Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medications.
- Handle script tracking and patient follow-ups.
- Support the call centre by answering patient queries professionally.
- Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, oncology scheme authorizations.
- Notify the manager of stock discrepancies and shortages.
- Receive and manage dispensary stock as per company SOPs.

- Basic computer literacy and numerical skills.
Advantageous Experience
- Previous experience in Retail FMCG or Dis-Chem’s front shop.
- Knowledge of family planning, complementary medicines, or drug dispensing.
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems.
Special Conditions of Employment
To qualify, applicants must:
- Pass the SAPC proficiency assessment.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have clear criminal and credit records.
- Pass MIE verification.
