Essential Qualifications and Competency Requirements
Applicants must possess the following minimum requirements to be considered for the position:
- Matric Certificate (Grade 12)
- Fire Fighter 1 and 2 Certifications
- Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification
- First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) Certificate
- A valid C1 Driver’s License
- Effective Communication Skills in both IsiZulu and English
- Minimum Two Years’ Experience in a fire and emergency environment
- Physical Fitness: Must successfully complete a 2.4 km run and pass physical assessment tests
- No Criminal Record or Pending Charges
- Computer Proficiency: Competency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Pump Operator Course
- Disaster Management Certification

1. Emergency Response Operations
- Respond immediately to fire alarms and emergency calls
- Conduct fire suppression, hazardous material containment, and rescue operations
- Provide medical emergency support and initial first aid services
2. Regulatory and Safety Compliance
- Comply with all municipal policies, procedures, and national legislation
- Maintain professional conduct at emergency scenes to ensure safety
3. Equipment Maintenance and Inspection
- Conduct regular cleaning and inspection of fire-fighting gear, vehicles, and tools
- Log equipment status and report faults or defects immediately
4. Community Disaster Preparedness
- Participate in disaster management programs and risk mitigation efforts
- Support community awareness initiatives focused on fire prevention and emergency readiness
5. Administrative and Reporting Duties
- Complete detailed incident reports, equipment logs, and documentation of response actions
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of operational records
6. Ongoing Training and Skills Development
- Participate in continuous fire-fighting training, medical simulations, and rescue exercises
- Stay up-to-date with latest emergency response methods and compliance standards
