The Limpopo Department of Education has officially announced 120 Learner Support Agent (LSA) job opportunities for unemployed youth across the province. These positions are temporary, running from November 2025 to April 2026, under a six-month fixed-term contract.

This initiative aims to empower young South Africans by offering valuable work experience within the education sector while supporting schools in providing care and assistance to vulnerable learners.

Job Overview and Purpose

The Learner Support Agent role focuses on assisting schools in implementing HIV/AIDS and Life Skills Programmes, as well as offering emotional and academic support to learners in need. LSAs will work closely with School-Based Support Teams (SBST) to identify and assist Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVCs).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing counselling and trauma debriefing for learners.
  • Supporting peer education activities and establishing Soul Buddyz Clubs.
  • Conducting home visits with SBST members to monitor learner well-being.
  • Maintaining detailed reports, circulars, and filing systems.
  • Coordinating with local Aids Councils and government partners to strengthen community support systems.

Who Can Apply

The Department invites unemployed South African youth aged 18 to 40 years to apply. Applicants must live close to the schools or districts where they wish to serve.

Minimum Requirements for School-Based LSAs

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
  • A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Community Development, or Auxiliary Social Work is an advantage.
  • Registration with SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions) is also beneficial.
  • Strong communication, writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

District-Based Learner Support Agent Requirements

District LSAs play a leadership and coordination role by guiding school-based LSAs and monitoring program implementation.

Minimum requirements include:

  • A Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience working with schools or community development initiatives.
  • SACSSP registration is an advantage.
  • Applicants must be 18–40 years old and able to travel within the district.

Job purpose: To support and monitor the implementation of HIV/AIDS and Life Skills programmes, manage data, and strengthen referral systems between schools and support partners.
