Programme Overview
The SAAT Apprenticeship is a structured theoretical and practical training program designed to develop highly skilled artisans. Successful candidates will train at SAAT’s state-of-the-art facilities to meet both local and international aviation regulatory standards.
Specialised Aviation Trades Offered
Applicants can select two trades in order of preference:
- Aircraft Welding: Precision welding, engine component repair, plasma spraying, and heat treatment.
- Aircraft Spray Painting: Corrosion prevention, exterior/interior painting, and protective coating application.
- Aircraft Trimming: Maintenance and manufacturing of aircraft interiors and vital survival equipment.
- Aircraft Composite Structures: High-tech inspection, repair, and maintenance of composite aircraft components.
Do You Qualify? (Minimum Requirements)
To be considered for the 2026 intake, you must be a South African citizen and meet one of the following educational criteria:
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
- Pure Mathematics: Minimum 50% (Level 4).
- Physical Science: Minimum 50% (Level 4).
- English: Passed (Symbol required).
Option 2: N3 Certificate
- Mathematics: Minimum 50% pass.
- Engineering Science: Minimum 50% pass.
Note: Only “Pure” Mathematics is accepted for the Matric option. Technical Maths or Maths Literacy will not be considered under Option 1.
