  • Matric / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification
  • A recognised Health and Safety certification (mandatory)
  • SAMTRAC or NOSA qualification
  • Three to five years of experience as a Safety Officer within the mining industry
  • Strong knowledge of the MHSA, OHS Act, audits and incident investigations
  • PSIRA Grade A certification
  • No criminal record or pending cases
  • Medically fit for duty
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transport
  • Residence in Secunda or nearby areas

Core Responsibilities of the Safety Officer

The Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing safety compliance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting weekly checks and updates of all site safety files
  • Auditing subcontractor safety files on a monthly basis
  • Participating in scheduled safety meetings
  • Uploading meeting minutes and investigation reports to the SHEQ X platform
  • Performing regular site visits and conducting PTO sessions with team members
  • Attending monthly SHE meetings and maintaining accurate records for audits
  • Responding to safety incidents, performing investigations and preparing preliminary reports
  • Collaborating closely with the Contract Manager and the Accounts Operations Executive – Mining
