Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

- Matric / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification
- A recognised Health and Safety certification (mandatory)
- SAMTRAC or NOSA qualification
- Three to five years of experience as a Safety Officer within the mining industry
- Strong knowledge of the MHSA, OHS Act, audits and incident investigations
- PSIRA Grade A certification
- No criminal record or pending cases
- Medically fit for duty
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transport
- Residence in Secunda or nearby areas

Core Responsibilities of the Safety Officer
The Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing safety compliance. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting weekly checks and updates of all site safety files
- Auditing subcontractor safety files on a monthly basis
- Participating in scheduled safety meetings
- Uploading meeting minutes and investigation reports to the SHEQ X platform
- Performing regular site visits and conducting PTO sessions with team members
- Attending monthly SHE meetings and maintaining accurate records for audits
- Responding to safety incidents, performing investigations and preparing preliminary reports
- Collaborating closely with the Contract Manager and the Accounts Operations Executive – Mining
