Main Responsibilities of a Reaction Officer
As a Reaction Officer, you will be expected to carry out essential security operations and act as the first line of defense. Your duties include:
- Protect employees, visitors, buildings, and movable assets.
- Patrol properties regularly and thoroughly.
- Monitor surveillance equipment continuously.
- Control access points and authorize entries or exits.
- Activate alarms or call for backup in emergencies.
- Investigate incidents and document occurrences.
- Control vehicle traffic and direct drivers.
- Maintain assigned security equipment through preventive maintenance.
- Provide outstanding customer service while staying alert.
- Comply with all relevant national and provincial laws.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies or criminal activities.
- Assist in accident investigations and safety audits.
- Prevent theft, vandalism, fire, or unauthorized access.
Required Skills and Competencies
This role requires a high level of professionalism, physical readiness, and the ability to act fast under pressure. You must be able to:
- Conduct effective patrols and surveillance.
- Identify and restrain trespassers if necessary.
- Prepare accurate reports and gather statements.
- Enforce safety policies without hesitation.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Follow company security protocols and standards.
- Stay calm during emergencies and assist affected individuals.
Qualifications You Need
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum education: Grade 12 or Grade 10/11 with at least 2 years of experience.
- PSIRA Certificate: Grade A or B.
- Armed Response Certification is mandatory.
- Firearm Competency in handgun, shotgun, and rifle.
- Valid Driver’s License is essential.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- Strong report writing abilities.
- Must be willing to relocate.
