The UMngeni-uThukela Water Learnership Programme 2025–2026 offers a one-year training opportunity to obtain a National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment (NQF Level 2). This fully funded programme empowers unemployed youth from KwaZulu-Natal’s deep rural areas to gain both theoretical and practical experience in the water sector.

The programme is run by the Training and Development Department with support from the Operations Division. Candidates will receive training at the Richards Bay and Jozini Water Treatment Plants in the North East Region.

Who Can Apply for the Learnership?

If you meet the following minimum requirements, you are encouraged to apply:

  • Must be unemployed
  • Must be 35 years old or younger
  • Completed Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Must reside in uMkhanyakude or uMzinto District Municipality
  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
  • Must not hold an NQF Level 5 or higher qualification
