About Mafube Coal
Mafube Coal is an opencast coal mine located 37 km east of Middelburg, Mpumalanga. It is a joint venture between Thungela Resources and Exxaro Resources, with a 50/50 partnership. The mine primarily produces coal for the export market and is well-known for its focus on innovation, sustainability, and people development.
Available Learnership Disciplines
Successful applicants will be placed in a structured programme combining theoretical learning at CTC and practical on-site training. Learnerships are available in the following trades:
- Electrical (REF: MAF 01 ELEC)
- Fitter (REF: MAF 02 FIT)
- Instrumentation (REF: MAF 03 INST)
- Rigger (REF: MAF 04 RM)
- Plater (REF: MAF 05 PLAT)
Each learnership gives you the opportunity to complete trade modules, assessments, and ultimately prepare for a trade test.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Education: Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science plus N2 technical qualification in the relevant trade
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety systems, regulations, and standards
- Work Readiness: Willingness to work shifts, standby, and call-outs
- Fitness: Ability to obtain a certificate of fitness
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is essential
