The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works (DRPW) has opened applications for the Phakamile Mabija Apprenticeship Programme 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for motivated South African youth to gain valuable skills, receive hands-on training, and earn a nationally recognised qualification.
Empowering Northern Cape Youth Through Skills Training
The programme aims to develop skilled artisans in key trades, contributing to infrastructure growth in the province. Successful candidates will benefit from:
- 36 months of hands-on practical training
- A nationally recognised Red Seal qualification

Available Apprenticeship Fields
Applicants can choose to apply for training in one of the following trades:
- Boilermaking – Requires an N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Drawings, and Boilermaking Trade Theory.
- Fitting and Turning – Requires an N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Drawings, and Fitting and Turning Trade Theory.
- Welding – Requires a Level 4 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Drawings, and Platers Trade Theory.
- Refrigeration – Requires an N2 Qualification with passed Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Drawings, and Electrical Trade Theory.
Meeting the minimum requirements is essential for consideration.
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is open to South African youth between 18 and 35 years old who are permanent residents of the Northern Cape Province. Candidates with a passion for technical work and a desire to build a career in the trades are encouraged to apply.
