Overview of the Health and Safety Intern Role

We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Intern to support our department’s daily operations. This position involves performing administrative duties, assisting with safety programs, and contributing to a secure workplace environment.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. You will collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Support Organisational Development and Employee Wellness

Assist in implementing initiatives that promote employee wellness and professional development. Help coordinate programs that improve workplace safety and engagement.

Develop and Maintain Safety Programs

Contribute to the creation and maintenance of safety policies, procedures, and programs. Ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date.

Record Keeping and Documentation

Maintain detailed records of safety training, incidents, inspections, and audits. Accurate documentation is critical for compliance and performance tracking.

Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions

Assist in investigating accidents, near misses, and safety incidents. Support the implementation of corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

Safety Training Coordination

Help organize safety training sessions for new hires, refresher courses, and specialized training. Ensure employees are informed about safety protocols.

Regulatory Compliance Collaboration

Work with various departments to maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Monitor departmental adherence to standards.

Monitoring and Reporting Safety Performance

Analyze SHE performance metrics and identify trends. Provide reports and recommendations to management for continuous improvement.

Emergency Preparedness

Assist in developing emergency response plans. Participate in drills and exercises to test and improve emergency protocols.

Industry Best Practices

Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to safety, health, and environmental management.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team while managing individual assignments.
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations and standards.
